Laurus nobilis

Laurel or Sweet Bay

Family: Lauraceae

Zone: 7-10                           Average Size: 10-20’H x 20’W

Identification:

-Dense pyramidal form, shrub or small tree
-Simple leaf, narrowly elliptic to ovate, dark green and leathery, often undulate, aromatic, evergreen

Note: Like the fig, the Sweet Bay is also a plant of the old world. The foliage was once used to make crowns for conquering heroes and athletes of Greece and Rome. Today it is known primarily as a culinary herb. In the garden, Bay will form a large shrub or may be pruned to a small tree, but will also make an excellent potted specimen or topiary.
